Coote's response to Van Dijk controversy

In that game back in 2020, Coote who was in control of VAR judged Virgil van Dijk to be offside after he had been clattered by Jordan Pickford in a two footed horror tackle.

The challenge left Van Dijk with a serious injury that ruled him out for the rest of the season.

Yet despite the dreadful challenge from Pickford, the Everton goalkeeper escaped punishment and was not sent off for the challenge. Nor did VAR instruct the referee on the pitch to take a look back at the incident and assess a potential red card.

At the time, Coote did make a response to the decision as per the Daily Mail with the Premier League referee claiming he was not aware he could recommend a red card to Michael Oliver, who was the referee on the pitch.

Considering a serious foul play like that is always a red card worthy incident that response from Coote is pretty pathetic to say the least.

We'd accept it from a casual observer of the game but not a Premier League referee. His job is literally to know the rules for these kinds of things.

Amid the latest alleged allegations, these incidents will undoubtedly be bringing up old festering wounds for Liverpool fans around the world.

At this point the authenticity of the video that surfaced online cannot be verified. Coote has seemingly made a statement but other than that we will not know the full ramifications of the incident until the PGMOL's investigation is concluded.
