Mohamed Salah could have easily been swayed by offers elsewhere instead of renewing his contract with Liverpool.

The star forward has committed to another two years, which should extend his stay at the club until 2027.

He will have plenty of time to attempt to smash individual goalscoring records while also claiming team honours under Arne Slot too.

Other teams - such as Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League - could have offered Salah a pay packet as high as £150 million per annum.

Another side who had Salah in their sights were Paris Saint-Germain and if it came down to salary alone then Liverpool wouldn’t have been able to compete.

The 32-year-old will continue to earn £350,000 per week at Anfield and that total will be topped up by his many lucrative commercial deals.

The key factor behind Liverpool renewal

And Liverpool’s ability to help Salah land those deals played a part in him choosing to remain on Merseyside.

Although the appeal of the Saudi Pro League is higher since the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema, it is still nowhere near the level of the Premier League.

Likewise, PSG are not the commercial behemoth they were when Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Neymar were at the club.

And now TBR Football states that the “commercial exposure” on offer at Liverpool was a key factor behind him signing his new deal.

“Speaking of commercial juggernauts, Mohamed Salah has re-signed with Liverpool,” a report states. “His £350,000-a-week deal, however, is only a fraction of his overall income.

"Salah earns over £1m per week from his various brand partnerships, which include Adidas, Pepsi, Gucci, Vodafone and Visa.

“Supposedly, this was one of the reasons that the Egyptian King was so keen to renew. At Anfield, he is guaranteed the kind of commercial exposure not available at Paris Saint-Germain or the Saudi Pro League.”

Liverpool are the PL's most popular team

Recent Nielsen data confirms that Liverpool reached a cumulative television audience of 133.8 million for the first nine games of the Premier League season - the most-watched team in the Premier League.

The Reds topped the viewing charts all across the world, in Central and South America, Europe and Middle East / North Africa.

It follows the Reds’ success last season, when they were the most-watched Premier League team across the world with 471 million tuning into their 38 games.

Liverpool also boast over 200 million social media followers on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Facebook, Linkedin and X, among others.

They were the first Premier League club to earn a Diamond Play Button from YouTube - given for reaching 10m subscribers.

The likes of PSG or Al-Hilal simply cannot compete with that level of popularity, meaning Salah’s decision to remain at the club was an easy one.
