Liverpool face contract uncertainty in summer 2025 and beyond with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah the most pressing concerns.

All three are out of contract at the end of the season and so far no breakthrough has been made over new deals for any of them. Beyond that however and the situation looks alarming long-term.

In 2026 Caoimhin Kelleher is scheduled to expire and the Ireland goalkeeper’s value is only going to plummet if the Reds cannot convince him to sign a new deal. And in the same year, Ibrahima Konate is also out of contract.

The French defender joined the Reds in 2021 from RB Leipzig but it’s only this season - and at the age of 25 - that he has begun to consistently deliver on his potential.

Paris Saint-Germain are ready to make a lucrative offer in order to bring him back to France and it’s also been reported that Real Madrid would be keen on making a bid.

Liverpool have offered Konate a new deal, according to the Athletic, but so far it remains unsigned.

Konate 'not up for debate'

Konate hasn’t been shy in discussing interest from elsewhere and Reds fans could be forgiven for being alarmed at the unfolding situation.

Losing Van Dijk and Konate in consecutive summers would be hugely damaging for the club - especially if both walk out the door for free.

Liverpool are planning for the future with Konate in mind so expect renewed efforts to tie him down to a new, extended deal.

“The situation around Ibrahmia Konate is not up for debate,” reads a report in the Athletic. “Top clubs across Europe continue to keep a close eye on any developments but Liverpool insist the French centre-back is part of their long-term plans.

“At 25, his best years should be ahead of him. A contract was offered late last year and talks have been ongoing.”

While Liverpool may well be making plans for Konate, the reality is that they need to get this contract tied up sooner rather than later.

It’s been a distraction this season with Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk and Salah all expiring - despite Liverpool’s fine form in the league.

Sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot will be hoping to have Konate sign on the dotted line before the contract problems become any worse.
