Liverpool still remain 'confident' that they will win the race to sign Aberdeen's teenage right-back Calvin Ramsay.

According to The Press and Journal, as cited by Anfield Watch Academy's Twitter account, Liverpool are set to launch a summer transfer bid for the 18-year-old right-back.

However, they face competition from Leeds United who are also preparing a move for the Scottish right-back.

Italian side Sassuolo are also interested in Ramsay and they sent a representative to watch him in action recently.

The report also goes on to say that Aberdeen rejected a £4.8m bid in January for the 18-year-old from Italian top-flight Cagliari.

Despite these clubs being interested, Liverpool are understood to be confident they can win the race to land the teen.

Anfield Watch Verdict

The main position that Liverpool do not have satisfactory cover for is the right-back position. Neco Williams had previously been Trent Alexander-Arnold's main cover but his successful loan at Fulham suggests that he will be on the move this summer.

Conor Bradley has also been used in the FA Cup and League Cup this season but he's failed to make a meaningful impact on being the Scouser's main back-up.

With the Reds lacking cover there, the role of back-up has fallen to Joe Gomez or James Milner. Neither of them are actual right-backs but they do the job.

Due to this, it looks like the Reds are in the market for an out and out right-back who will be happy to be Trent's understudy.

This is where Calvin Ramsay comes in. The 18-year-old is in a very similar mould to the Scouser. He is definitely more of an attacking fullback than a defensive fullback, amassing five assists and one goal for Aberdeen this season.

Ramsay is very highly-rated in Scotland and a move to Liverpool would bolster his reputation even more in his home country.

Who knows, if he impresses Jurgen Klopp then we could see Trent moved to midfield, something a lot of people have speculated for a long time.
