FSG continue their new ambitions, having raided their rivals the City Group for a key acquisition in the boardroom.

It's a model that became apparent Liverpool would follow with the return of Michael Edwards, who will oversee football operations at all levels within the FSG multi-club system.

Edwards will not be working alone. The likes of Pedro Marques and Julian Ward have been recruited to work alongside him.

So far, Malaga CF is a club that has been identified as a potential investment and FSG also tried to buy Bordeaux last summer, but that Reds' owners pulled out of that deal.

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool ENTER Hugo Ekitike talks

Now though it seems like things are getting even closer for FSG and their latest recruitment would seem to support that.

Why FSG's hire of Laurie Shaw is a massive coup for Liverpool

The Athletic has reported that FSG have landed Laurie Shaw as their latest recruit who will work for the club's owners in multiple sports.

Shaw worked at The City Group since February 2021 as a Head of Football AI before moving on to take a role as Director of Football Data in September 2023.

The City Group enjoyed a lot of succes under Shaw's time at the club. Most notably, Girona grew its assets massively. The Spanish side were playing in the second division of Spain before Shaw took his role and under him became a Champions League club, finishing third in La Liga in the 2023/24 season.

Under Shaw, Girona's recruitment saw them bringing in the likes of Artem Dovbyk, Miguel Gutierrez and Viktor Tsygankov.

Shaw's time saw The City Group recruit massive talents like Savinho, who played for Girona as well and is a perfect example of the multi-club working well for promising young players.

Shaw's experience working in a multi-club system and playing a role in Girona's rise through the ranks of Spanish football could be a valuable asset for FSG, especially if they strike a deal for Malaga.

But having agreed to bring in Shaw, his arrival alone is exciting. He is one of the leading figures in tracking data in football and he knows Liverpool's Will Spearman well.

The fact that he is now going to be working for FSG and not the City Group will be an asset for Liverpool in years to come. His addition will only help to make the Reds stronger.
