John Achterberg issues praise for Harvey Davies
Liverpool goalkeeping coach John Achterberg has said that youngster Harvey Davies is now working with the first-team on a daily basis whilst still playing for the U23 side, and it is up to the young goalkeeper to now really show what he can do.
Liverpool have one of the best goalkeepers in the world in Alisson Becker, whilst Caoimhin Kelleher is a really able understudy and Adrian is a decent enough third choice stopper.
Indeed, that position is pretty solid in terms of depth but the Reds are always looking to the future and Davies is the latest player who could well find himself involved with the Liverpool first-team in the years ahead, if he keeps himself focused.
Quoted by The Athletic, Achterberg said:
“It’s good to have Harvey with us full-time now. If he’s playing for the under-23s he will go back to them the day before to prepare but his day-to-day training programme is with us. It’s in Harvey’s hands.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
There are some really handy young players coming through at Liverpool including the obvious examples of Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon, who scored at the weekend.
It's certainly an exciting time for Liverpool to have such good youngsters coming through and Davies will want to try and push his way into the first-team set-up more in the years ahead.
Training with the first team he now has the chance to do so and that is an opportunity that he will need to try and grab with both hands.
