Harvey Elliott closing in on Liverpool injury return

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is closing in on a return to team training, four months after suffering an ankle dislocation against Leeds United in the Premier League.

Elliott was given the green light to feature for the Reds in the first-team at the start of this season, with Jurgen Klopp opting to give him a chance rather than sign a replacement for the outgoing Gini Wijnaldum.

Elliott impressed, too, with a number of good displays in the Reds' early matches of the campaign, before picking up a horrible injury in an inocuous challenge at Elland Road.

Indeed, since then, he has been on the road to recovery and it has naturally taken him a few months but it seems as though we're close to seeing him back with the team in certain aspects of training.

This comes via James Pearce for The Athletic:

Anfield Watch Verdict

It's a great bit of news for Elliott who has had an excellent development phase in the last year or so to genuinely become a first-team option for the Reds.

The start of this season was really promising for him before he got the injury but he has worked hard since and is now closing in on a really big step in his recovery.

Of course, match fitness and sharpness still need to be built up so he won't be straight back into the fold but it's certainly looking as though he is on the right path and heading down it at a decent rate of knots now.
