With Jordan Henderson's Liverpool departure all but confirmed, Jurgen Klopp faces the challenge of appointing a new captain — and Dominik Szoboszlai may have just hinted at who will be taking the armband.

It's safe to say that this week,  the talk of the town has been Henderson and his impending transfer to the Middle East, as the midfielder looks to join up with former teammate Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq.

Liverpool have reportedly accepted a bid of £12m plus add-ons for their skipper, who is set to sign a three-year deal with the Saudi Arabian outfit, worth around £350,000 per week.

While the move has created much debate among fans as to whether the move will impact Henderson's Liverpool — and indeed wider societal — legacy, another big talking point is where that leaves the Reds in terms of their captaincy.

After James Milner already departed on a free transfer earlier this summer, Henderson's exit will leave big shoes to fill, with both the captain's armband and the vice-captain position up for grabs.

Naturally, Virgil van Dijk has been earmarked for the permanent position due to his leadership qualities and the fact that he has captained the Reds on 43 previous occasions.

Now this looks even more probable, with new signing Szoboszlai hinting on Instagram that the Dutchman is in line to be appointed captain.

In response to a post-match appreciation message on the social media site, Liverpool's number four clapped Szoboszlai's performance, before the Hungarian replied with a "C", as well as a "praying" emoji - which many fans believe to be indicating that a captaincy announcement is on the horizon.

Whether Szoboszlai is simply thankful towards Liverpool's captain of the first half against Karlsruher SC, or knows that the centre half will become the skipper on a permanent basis remains to be seen.

One certainty though, van Dijk is definitely the most likely candidate due to his vast experience and involvement in the club's "Leadership group".

Other current members of the leadership group, excluding Henderson, include Andrew Robertson, Alisson Becker and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will likely all be candidates for vice-captain alongside Mohamed Salah.
