Arne Slot's faith isn't enough: Liverpool star tells friends he wants EXIT

Liverpool’s resounding success so far this season has come from some rather unexpected sources.

If you said that you thought Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate were going to be arguably the two most crucial players in the side, you would be accused of lying. Actually, you would be lying.

One man who has become essential to the team once again, however, is Caoimhin Kelleher. His 26 appearances last season largely came in lieu of an injured Alisson, and the Irish international made more than a name for himself when the time came.

As a result, the early part of the season was rife with direct admittances by Kelleher that he wanted to become a full-time starter and, as a result, would want to leave Liverpool.

It’s understandable, given Liverpool’s signing of Georgian international Giorgi Mamardashvili to challenge Alisson for his place from the start of next season, whilst Kelleher is still on the books.

And who knows how Liverpool’s higher-ups must have felt when Alisson went down with an injury against Crystal Palace last month, resulting in Kelleher getting another bout of games in the league.

Kelleher admits he wants to leave Liverpool

Yet, despite another run in the side, his mindset hasn’t changed. Football Insider are reporting that the shot-stopper has informed his friends that he will try and leave Liverpool unless he is given direct assurances of the regularity of his appearances for the side.

Liverpool rejected a bid by Nottingham Forest for Kelleher’s services in the summer transfer window just gone, and they are expecting Celtic to make a run for him as a replacement for 38-year-old Kasper Schmeichel.

Yet Kelleher’s performances have remained outstanding as he fills in for Alisson again. He currently ranks fourth in the Premier League for post-shot expected goals minus goals conceded per 90, a stat which demonstrates how well a goalkeeper is performing in stopping shots you would reasonably expect to see a goal from.

The only players with significant appearances ahead of him are Andre Onana, Nick Pope and, notably, Alisson.

It speaks to the level that Kelleher can perform at despite not having any consistency in play so far in his career. Liverpool have an embarrassment of riches at the position and only time will tell to see if they make the right move in letting him go.
