Liverpool vs Bournemouth: Injury, suspension and team news
Here are the latest updates on Liverpool’s first-team injuries and suspensions vs Bournemouth as well as return dates for key squad members.
After Liverpool triumphantly dispatched AC Milan at the San Siro in the Champions League, focus now returns to the Premier League where the Reds will be trying to get back to winning ways when they face Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday 21 September.
Alisson Becker
Arne Slot revealed on Friday morning that goalkeeper Alisson Becker was a doubt for the game against the Cherries owing to a muscle problem he picked up prior to the Milan game.
Although he featured in the win, the head coach has now admitted that the Brazilian might not be fit for Saturday. If he is out, expect wantaway Caoimhin Kelleher to deputise, which he did so often last season.
Potential return date: 21 September 2024 (Liverpool vs Bournemouth)Harvey Elliott
Reason:
Fractured foot
After being selected for England's U21 squad, Elliott felt discomfort during the initial training sessions and was ruled out for their international break games against Northern Ireland U21 and Austria U21.
It has since been revealed
Elliott has only played seven minutes for Liverpool so far this campaign, making a brief cameo in the Reds' 2-0 win over Brentford. He likely won’t return until next month.
Potential return date: 20 October 2024 (Liverpool vs Chelsea)Curtis Jones
Reason:
Muscle problem
Jones returned to the matchday squad and got 15 minutes under his belt against Nottingham Forest after missing Liverpool's previous two games
Although the 23-year-old made it onto the pitch for the Reds his minutes will still need to be limited as he regains his match fitness.
Jones was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s win at Milan, meaning Arne Slot may be taking caution and may believe Curtis needs some more time to rest and recover.
Potential return date: 21 September 2024 (Liverpool vs Bournemouth)Federico Chiesa
Reason: Lack of match fitness
Chiesa made his debut for the Reds on Tuesday, coming on in injury time with three minutes to go.
The 26-year-old signed for Liverpool late in the summer
After featuring at the San Siro, supporters will be hoping they can get a little glimpse more of what he can produce at Anfield on Saturday, but again his minutes may be limited.
