However, Liverpool's ties with the pop culture phenomenon goes far deeper than just the duo.
One of the club's main sponsors is Kodansha, which is Japan's biggest publisher of manga and the home of several of the most read stories in the genre.
This has seen Liverpool collaborate with Kodansha to promote anime and manga stories several times in the past, and the club could be on the brink of another collaboration.
Liverpool tease another Blue Lock collaboration
Liverpool's partnership with Kodansha has been in effect since 2021 and the Reds announced a new long-term agreement back in the summer of 2023 with the publishing company.
One of Kodansha's most popular series is the Blue Lock manga and anime with over 40 million copies in circulation to date. It's a story that's a bit like Squid Game but the football version of it, centred around Japan's quest to find the ultimate striker after their failures at the 2018 World Cup.
It follows the adventures of Yoichi Isagi in his attempts to become the best Japanese striker.
In the past Liverpool have done a few collaborations with Blue Lock including releasing a special edition poster in the Weekly Shonen magazine.
More recently the club collaborated to create special edition Blue Lock artwork that were displayed in Liverpool Comic Con back in November of this year.
Against Manchester City at Anfield, eagled eyed supporters who are fans of the show will have noticed the advertisement board displaying Blue Lock themed ads just as Mohamed Salah buried his penalty to give Liverpool a 2-0 lead.
This is a promotion that teases another exciting collaboration with Liverpool and Blue Lock with Kodansha set to publish limited edition manga books for the first five books in the series with the show's main character clad in Liverpool gear.
These special edition copies are already available in Japan and can be purchased in local stores. It remains to be seen whether they hit the market in Europe as well.
But either way for fans of Blue Lock and Liverpool, this was another exciting collaboration.
