Liverpool are set to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers away from home on Saturday afternoon, but what the best moments between the two sides in the Jurgen Klopp era?

Now that the international break is finally over, all of Liverpool's focus is on the tough away trip to Wolves, as the club looks to continue their emphatic start to the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Reds have drawn one and won three in their first four fixtures and currently sit in third place, behind only Manchester City in terms of points.

However, they face Wolves on Saturday lunchtime and Liverpool have a horrendous history with early kick-offs – with Klopp's side not recording a single win in six last season.

Even with the Reds in great form, it will likely take something special to break the dreadful cycle, but the club have a habit of great moments against Wolves.

Here are five of Liverpool's greatest moments against Wolves under Klopp.

Van Dijk's first Premier League goal

When Liverpool first signed Virgil van Dijk for a world-record ยฃ75m fee from Southampton, the footballing world collectively laughed at how much the club had overpaid for the defender.

Fast forward five years, Liverpool's number four is now looked at as an absolute bargain โ€“ he scored on his debut against Everton, won UEFA Player of the Year in 2019, lifted every club trophy possible, became club captain and is widely accepted to be the best defender of his generation.

The Dutchman loves a goal as well, scoring 19 in his Reds career so far, but his first Premier League goal for the club came against Wolves in December 2018.

Mohamed Salah picked up the ball from a poorly-cleared corner and looped the ball back into the danger zone. Van Dijk was the first to react and volleyed it low into the bottom corner to put Liverpool 2-0 up on the day.

It was perhaps the best present Van Dijk could have given Liverpool fans at the time, with the goal ensuring that the Reds spent Christmas Day at the top of the Premier League table.

Acrobatic from Elliott

Fans knew the club was signing a gem in Harvey Elliott, ever since he joined from Fulham back in 2019, but this strike for the club's Under-23s was the start of the youngster really showing what he could do in red.

Liverpool's seniors were in action against West Ham, and even though they won 2-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League, Elliott stole the show that day with a stunning strike against Wolves' youth side.

With the youngsters losing 2-1 in the second half, the corner was floated into the box and found 16-year old Elliott in space, with his back to goal.

Not a problem for Elliott though. He connected perfectly with an overhead bicycle kick which was struck low and fast past the Wolves keeper to secure a draw for his side.

Inevitable Origi

How is it that a striker who only scored 41 goals for Liverpool in 175 appearances can be universally adored by supporters?

Simply put, football is about moments and Divock Origi has more than most.

If the Belgian's Reds career were to be summed up by one thing, it would be late goals. For years, Origi was Klopp's wildcard that he relied on from the bench when Liverpool were in desperate need of a goal.

This one against Wolves on December 4 2021 is up there with the best of them. The game was stagnant for large periods, with Liverpool unable to break down the home side's low block.

In the 94th minute, however, a beautiful ball was played to the foot of Mohamed Salah, who burst into the box and found the only red shirt in the box.

Origi picked up the ball with six Wolves players around him, took a touch and rifled it into the far bottom corner to the roar of the away crowd.

That goal also took Liverpool to the top of the Premier League. He truly does know how to pick his moments.

Elliott loves facing Wolves

The fact that a Elliott is just 20 years old and he already has two entries on this list, goes to show just how much the youngster must love playing against Wolves.

After scoring a bicycle kick equaliser, you'd imagine that would be the best you're going to get against a specific team, but just a few years later, Elliott scored an absolute screamer against Wolves in the FA Cup.

Liverpool had forced a replay of the FA Cup third round after drawing 2-2 from behind weeks prior, and the club's diamond made the replay count, scoring the only goal to progress with style.

The youngster picked up the ball in his own half, carried it superbly and launched a rocket into the top corner from at least 30-yards out, much to the surprise of the Wolves keeper.

What a finish.

Oh he wears the number 20!

Perhaps Liverpool's greatest moment against Wolves in the Klopp era occurred off the pitch.

Securing Diogo Jota off the back of winning their first league title in 30 years was an incredible coup for the club.

Jota signed from Wolves in 2020 for around ยฃ45m and has gone on to become arguably Liverpool's most clinical finisher (which is really saying something, considering the club's vast depth in attack and the fact that they employ Mohamed Salah).

The number 20 has gone on to win the FA Cup and the League Cup under Klopp, scoring 42 goals and registering 15 assists in just 117 games for the club so far.

In that time, he has made plenty of memories for supporters that will go down in history โ€“ perhaps the best being the late dramatic winner in the seven-goal thriller with Tottenham last season, that left Richarlison in tears.

Thank you, Wolves!
