Liverpool's best goals against West Ham in the Premier League
Liverpool are set to welcome West Ham to Anfield on Sunday afternoon, and both teams are in excellent attacking form.
There could well be plenty of goals, so what better excuse than to revisit some of the best Liverpool strikes against the Hammers from over the years?
From ferocious counter-attacks and well-rounded goals to defensive screamers and outrageous pile-drivers, here are five of the best goals Liverpool’s have scored against West Ham in the Premier League era.
FEROCIOUS FOWLER (1997)

What a way to start off the list. The oldest strike but also quite possibly the best.
Robbie Fowler was always one for a screamer.
An inviting cross in from the left-hand side was headed away by the West Ham defender, before Fowler, on the edge of the box, bends his left leg around the ball and fires a volley into the top right-hand corner.
The Red’s number nine almost had to jump to reach the ball, but the connection was absolute perfection. Up there with one of the legend's greatest ever Liverpool goals.
KUYT KILLER (2007)
One of the most beloved Liverpool players of the Premier League era has to be included in this list, and his name is Dirk Kuyt.
At, the now demolished, Upton Park, a long ball forward was met by Peter Crouch. Most players would’ve only been able to flick this ball on with their head, but given Crouchy’s 6ft 7in figure, he was easily able to use his chest to bring it down.
He then strides forward, before laying off a ball on the right of the box for Kuyt, who steadies himself and proceeds to rocket a looping strike into the top right-hand corner, off the crossbar, just ten seconds into the second-half.
It’s worth noting that instead running onto the ball, Kuyt had to let Crouch’s pass come across his body before connecting, a technique that is simply impossible for many, but certainly not for Liverpool’s number 19.
A special mention to Crouch, who also scored a rocket of a strike moments before Kuyt’s goal, with a placed finish from the edge of the box.
JOHNSON HAUNTS HAMMERS (2012)
He didn’t score many goals for Liverpool during his six-year spell at Anfield, but this was possibly Glen Johnson’s best.
The right-back took down a Steven Gerrard switch halfway inside the Hammers half, before gliding inside like prime Mohamed Salah, cutting back on his right foot and leathering a strike into the corner of the net.
A subdued celebration followed, as Johnson had spent ten years of his youth at West Ham from the age of nine, but I’m sure the celebrations inside the changing room were a little more energetic.
This was Liverpool’s first goal in a thoroughly entertaining 3-2 win and would go on to be their last screamer in this list at Upton Park.
WELL... THAT WAS QUICK (2017)
This is surely one of the fastest counter attacks in Premier League history. I’ve counted 11.5 seconds from Roberto Firmino’s clearing header to Salah slotting home.
A Manuel Lanzini corner, at the London Stadium, is cleared away by our Bobby, and is picked up by Sadio Mane who tears up the pitch before teeing up Salah for a simple one-on-one finish past the helpless Joe Hart.
The speed at which Salah and Mane soared up the pitch is terrifying. The West Ham just players can’t get close two the pair at all, as the Egyptian runs and embraces the Senegal international.
I miss them together so much…
WIJNALDUM'S SO NEARLY (2017)
If the build-up didn’t include Gini Wijnaldum’s almost-screamer, I wouldn’t have been so inclined to include in this list.
A James Collins header falls to the Dutchman about 28 yards out, who fires a first time, dipping volley towards the West Ham goal, which rockets off the crossbar.
The ball fortunately falls to Philippe Coutinho on the edge of the box, who skips past one, two, three Hammers defenders before slotting a beautiful finish into the bottom left corner.
A brilliant goal, nonetheless, but a humungous ‘what if’ just moment before.
