Liverpool or Barcelona: Wonderkid CONFIRMS his decision

Liverpool’s transfer rumours have been wildly speculative so far this season due to the transitional period they find themselves in.

With the undetermined futures of Mo Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, Liverpool may be facing the necessity to bring in a bare minimum of three new players for the start of next season.

As a result, rumours and links to a whole host of top level names have been flying around.

But Liverpool also have not been wildly successful in the transfer market of late. The failure to sign Martin Zubimendi was a bit of an embarrassing saga for the club, and the decision to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili with both Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher still on the books was a headscratcher.

Federico Chiesa has also had a mysterious lengthy injury and is now already facing rumours of a loan spell away from the club.

And now Spanish outlet E-N are reporting that Liverpool have lost out on the race for 18-year old Brazilian starlet Rayan Vitor.

The Vasco da Gama star has reportedly agreed to sign for Barcelona for a fee of around £15m. The Spanish giants faced competition from both Liverpool and Marseille for the youngster's services.

The young star is yet to find a defined position, playing across the attacking line. Despite only registering one goal and one assist this season, the attacker is valued highly.

He made his debut for Brazil's Under-20 side in September as he looks to be integrated further into the national setup. At 6-foot-1, he has excelled in the air at youth level, but it is his lengthy dribbling ability that he appears to excel in the Brazilian Serie A.

Liverpool's transfer strategy needs a rethink

This is another in the list of similar situations that the Reds have lost out on. They were reportedly in the mix for Real Madrid star Rodrygo back in 2019 before the Brazilian ended up leaving Santos to head to Spain.

They then reportedly had a seismic £100m+ bid rejected for him earlier this season.

The club were reportedly also interested in Brazilian wonderkid Endrick before he also moved to Real Madrid this summer.

If this is the case, it would be worth the club revisiting its transfer strategy with young South American talent. The club obviously have the standing and finances to get these deals over the line, yet consistently miss out.

With Mo Salah’s future up in the air, Liverpool have no lack of need for promising attacking talent that they can nurture into Arne Slot’s system as the team grow together.
