Liverpool 'at the window' for €40m Serie A defender

Liverpool have once again been linked with a move for Torino defender Perr Schuurs.

In addition to the midfield rebuild, the Reds are understood to be looking at options to improve their defensive depth, with a particular eye on long-term, left-sided centre-back candidates.

Levi Colwill was one name under consideration earlier in the window, but the Chelsea star has since signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.

There have been precious few credible links to other defenders so far this summer, with interest in Micky van de Ven seemingly dropped early and Josko Gvardiol – a player long admired by the Reds' hierarchy – making a big-money move to Manchester City.

Meanwhile, most of the transfer talk has been around Romeo Lavia and the other midfielders Liverpool could yet sign before 1 September.

One name that has occasionally cropped up, however, is that of Schuurs.

Torino's 23-year-old star has frequently been touted for a move to the Premier League, with the Reds named as a possible suitor.

Calciomercato now claim that Liverpool remain 'at the window' for the Netherlands international, along with Premier League rivals West Ham.

It is reported that Crystal Palace have dropped their interest in the defender having seen a €30m (£26m) bid rejected, with Torino are 'inflexible' in demanding €40m (£35m) for a sale.

Calciomercato's piece admits that Liverpool have yet not actually put a bid in, though Torino are already looking at replacements for Schuurs in preparation for his departure.

A graduate of the fabled Ajax academy, 6ft 3in Schuurs joined Torino in 2022 for just €9m (£7.5m). He has drawn comparisons to Virgil van Dijk due to his stature, and has often featured in a back three for Torino.

He is, however, right-footed rather than left, significantly reducing the likelihood of Liverpool's interest at this point in time.
