Kaide Gordon in line for a Jurgen Klopp Liverpool call up after sensational week

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp could hand 19-year-old Kaide Gordon a place in the squad for tonight’s visit to Aston Villa in the Premier League.

It’s Klopp’s penultimate match in charge of the Reds, with his final Liverpool appearance coming this weekend in the home game against Wolves.

With third place in the Premier League table secured, there is the possibility that the German might freshen up the squad with some new faces with less pressure on the fixture than before.

Arsenal and Manchester City will contest the league title in the final week of the season, with City hoping to take control of the title race by claiming victory against Tottenham on Tuesday.

Before that comes the Reds’ Monday night fixture at Villa Park where Klopp may well ring in the changes.

Diogo Jota remains an injury doubt meaning there could be space on the bench for one of Liverpool’s most exciting emerging talents.

Gordon had been a mainstay in the Reds’ Premier League 2 fixtures in recent months but played no part on Sunday as Liverpool were eliminated from the playoffs at the quarter-final stage.

Barry Lewtas’ side were beaten on penalties by Spurs at Hotspur Way after Lewis Koumas, Alfie Dorrington and James Norris helped secure a 3-3 draw in 90 minutes.

Reds fans might well have expected to see Gordon involved considering his brilliant brace in the previous round, against Crystal Palace, in a fixture for which he was named captain and where he also delivered an assist.

Neither James McConnell or Jayden Danns were involved for the under-21s at the weekend, meaning they too could fill out the squad tonight.

Gordon rounded off a brilliant week by signing a new, long-term deal with Liverpool and he will now be hoping to put his injury troubles behind him and challenge for a place in the first team under Arne Slot.

The ex-Derby youngster had become a regular in the senior squad under Klopp before a debilitating hip injury ruled him out for an extended spell.

He has played three times for the Liverpool first team this season, including appearances in the Europa League, Premier League and the FA Cup.
