Arne Slot’s arrival on Merseyside was met with optimism, but also there was a bit of fear.

Replicating the work and legacy of Jurgen Klopp was always going to be a struggle as well as winning over the love of the fans.

But, in his short time already at the club, Slot has got Liverpool playing attractive football which sees the Reds top of the Premier League and Champions League tables.

He has transformed how the team looks and has gifted an air of confidence to every single player, while also maintaining his cool and calm demeanour both on the touchline and in the media; it is a pleasure to behold.

But not all of this good work comes from him.

Behind the scenes, the entire backroom coaching staff was shifted for a new team to join Slot.

Slot chose former Everton defender John (Johhny) Heitinga to become his assistant head coach having previously held roles at West Ham as well as a stint as interim head coach at Ajax.

His reputation as a Blue precedes him, but fans have quickly forgotten his past.

The Dutchman has already gained a fantastic reputation around the club, constantly tutoring the players either one-to-one or taking charge of training sessions when necessary.

His impact has been incomparable.

But now, Heitinga could find himself leaving Liverpool sooner than anticipated with one English club shortlisting him as their next manager.

Heitinga favourite for West Brom

West Brom currently sit 8th in the Championship, two points off the play-off positions with half of the season completed.

Earlier last week, their manager Carlos Corberan departed the club to join Spanish side Valencia, were he will incidentally be managing future Reds player Giorgi Mamardashvili.

The Baggies are now searching for a replacement with Heitinga being eyed up.

According to the Times, Heitinga is “keen to move into management when the time is right.” However, West Brom would “face a battle to persuade the 41-year-old to leave mid-season.”

With Liverpool’s season looking incredibly promising, it would be a devastating blow to see one of Slot’s most important staff members depart before the end.

The Reds boss has verbally praised his assistant before, stating, “If I say talented, I don’t even rate him enough because he is more than that already, the way he is with us boys is very positive.”

West Brom currently have former players Boaz Myhill and Chris Brunt along with statistician Damia Abella in charge.

But a calculated move for Heitinga may be on the cards with him currently joint favourite with former Lazio manager Igor Tudor to take over the reigns.
