Arne Slot's MAJOR Alexis Mac Allister call EXPLAINED
Now at the precipice of a remarkable run of games, Arne Slot is being forced into some difficult judgement calls.
Liverpool face Chelsea, Arsenal, Brighton twice and Leverkusen, all in the next two weeks across all competitions.
And after the second international break of the season, the club's players have been fighting the clock to be in contention for today's Anfield clash against Chelsea.
While many of Liverpool's contingent are from South America, the turnaround is rather quick from their return to Anfield on Thursday night.
As such, Arne Slot has been forced into a major decision surrounding Argentinian midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Arne Slot's BOLD Mac Allister call
Alexis Mac Allister has been taken out of the starting XI by Arne Slot for the Chelsea fixture.
This is partly as a result of the tight turnaround following the international break, but there are also concerns surrounding the Argentinian's fitness.
Despite featuring in parts for his country over the past few weeks, he only played 66 minutes in Argentina's 6-0 win over Bolivia, so Lionel Scaloni has been cautious surrounding a lingering injury.
Once back on Merseyside, Mac Allister was absent from the Friday training session and was only tasked with specific individual exercises in order to not stress his muscle concerns.
This is likely to be a protocol that Slot is forced to keep in place over the upcoming weeks as the No8 is of such integral importance to the team.
In Mac Allister's place, Dominik Szoboszlai returns to the starting line-up, meanwhile Curtis Jones keeps his place in the team as well after an impressive performance against Crystal Palace.
They will be taking on a Chelsea midfield with Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia - both of whom infamously came close to signing for Liverpool in the summer of 2023.
The Reds though, ended up signing Ryan Gravenberch, who will be playing the no.6 role in this game.
