Liverpool now face the prospect of their key stars being able to negotiate with clubs from abroad as early as January in just two months time.

The pressure is now on Richard Hughes in order to make sure he ties the Reds' key players into new long-term contracts or face the wrath of the club's supporter base.

Now Slot has opened up about the situation and revealed he currently has no qualms about the ongoing developments.

Arne Slot reveals when Liverpool's contract situation could become a 'problem'

Speaking to reporters in his press conference ahead of Liverpool's Premier League clash against Brighton, Slot was asked about the contract situation surrounding the Reds' three stars.

Slot was quick to point out he has no concerns at the moment about the trio, revealing Van Dijk's recent comments about him being uncertain about his future at the club are normal.

The Dutchman also added he has no control over the matter.

"There are ongoing discussion with the people Virgil says he has to talk to, and that's not me as you know," Slot said.

"I talk to him about other things. Virgil is completely right that he doesn't know what his future is if he hasn't signed the contract yet."

Slot also added that at this moment in time, he is completely satisfied with the performances of his key stars.

However, he did reveal when he thought the contract situation would become a problem - if the club's players didn't perform to a high standard.

"The contract situation only becomes a problem if players doesn't perform as well as they are now," Slot added.

"At the moment, all three are in a good place and performing really, really well."

Slot's use of 'at the moment' is an interesting way to term things. Clearly, he is aware that at any given time, there is the potential of this contract situation unravelling and becoming a major issue on the pitch.

That is why it's so imperative for Hughes and the rest of the Liverpool boardroom to sort this situation out as soon as possible.
