How Arne Slot’s touchline ban will IMPACT Liverpool
Arne Slot’s start to life as head coach of Liverpool couldn’t have gone much better.
His side sit top of the Premier League and Champions League, with a whole host of players stepping in to do more than what was expected of them before the season.

There is no doubt that this is almost single-handedly down to Slot, whose methods and tactics have clearly resonated with a Liverpool squad who were used to the intensity of Jurgen Klopp.
Part of this is also Slot’s demeanour and nature, which has been welcomed by the British media. His candidness, willingness to reason and explain as well as overall friendliness has meant a whole host of his interviews have done well.
However, during matches, we have seen a feistier side to the Dutchman. So much so, in fact, that he is now serving a one-match touchline ban for an accumulation of yellow cards.
Arne Slot's touchline ban
He received his third during the weekend’s 2-2 draw with Fulham at Anfield after a mistimed challenge by Curtis Jones.
When asked in his pre-match press conference just how big an impact this could have on his team tomorrow night, Slot replied:
“Not as much as I thought it should impact because if you are suspended in Holland then you are not allowed to be in and around the dressing room, you cannot do the media as well.
“So, this is a lighter version of suspension I would say that I'm used to but I've never been used to being suspended, so it's the first time I am. I think I'm still able to do the things I want to do.
“The moment you have the [least] impact on your team is during the 45 minutes. And the most impact you can have is at half-time or before the game – and those are the things I can do. But in an ideal situation, I would have just been on the sideline. But I got a yellow, which I probably deserved again as well, and it happens.”
Slot’s ability to reason and understand his fate is just another reason he has been such a welcome addition to British football.
There would be a range of managers - we won’t name names - who would pout and cry about a touchline ban. Yet Slot takes it in good faith, understanding he can still do his work regardless.
It is expected that Slot’s assistant Sipke Hulshoff will stand in for Slot in the dugout against Southampton in the League Cup quarter final, communicating with the head coach by phone or radio.
