Arne Slot bats away Marcel Brands's advice for future Liverpool signings

Feyenoord manager Arne Slot's imminent move to Liverpool has got everyone talking - including a former Everton man who has given his view on what the Dutchman should do when he takes the helm.

Following the Rotterdam side's commanding 5-0 victory over PEC Zwolle on Sunday, Slot revealed, in quotes relayed by Voetbal Zone, that while discussions with the Anfield club are ongoing, no formal agreement has been reached as yet.

That said, he expressed his confidence in the process, clearly hinting at an imminent agreement, with only the official announcement pending.

He said: "These kinds of things always take some time. I have said many times that I’m confident that things will turn out well.

"I can’t tell you exactly when it will be released at the moment."

Marcel Brands gives Arne Slot warning

However, amidst the anticipation, Slot has received advice from an unexpected quarter - Marcel Brands, the general manager of PSV Eindhoven.

Brands, who previously held a position at Liverpool's local rivals Everton, has cautioned Slot against solely focusing on Dutch players, emphasising the diversity of talent available in the Premier League.

This, coincidentally, echoed the advice shared by former Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Slot was questioned about this advice by ESPN reporter Toine van Peperstraten and the 45-year-old responded in a cautious manner.

"That’s good advice from people who have worked in the Premier League and have made their mark in football," he said.

"But I don’t think you should always judge based on moments from the past."

Nationality and background aren't important

The Feyenoord manager's response underscores his belief in evaluating players based on their individual merit rather than their nationality or background.

He added, "If a player is good, it shouldn’t matter what level he comes from. But at the moment there’s no talk of anything, because nothing has been officially confirmed yet."

Slot's measured response, as well as continued links to Feyenoord's Lutsharel Geertruida, would seemingly indicate his reluctance to be swayed by external noise.
