Ex-Premier League man has one ‘WORRY’ about Arne Slot at Liverpool

There’s one reason to be worried about Arne Slot at Liverpool, says Troy Deeney. The Dutchman is set to replace Jurgen Klopp.

Troy Deeney believes there’s one real worry about Arne Slot becoming the next Liverpool manager. The Dutchman is in line to take over from Jurgen Klopp, though the deal hasn’t been completed just yet.

Still, there’s every expectation that Slot is the man. The Feyenoord boss has won the Eredivisie title in his three years in charge of the side, while he also reached the Europa Conference League final in his debut campaign there.

But Deeney feels there’s a real gap in his CV and it’s one that could create problems for him at Anfield.

“He has got a massive 75% win ratio, which is huge for any level,” he told TalkSPORT. “But my worry or fear for him is that - when you make it about money everyone gets weird - but he has never managed a player who has been on more than £50,000-a-week, and he’s never been around a player with more than £7m spent.

"Now, that’s some of the youth team players at Liverpool. Can you manage those egos?"

Arne Slot takes a big step up

It’s a big step for Slot, there’s no question about that. He’s never had to manage this level of player before - players who are fully established and, it should be said, some with a far bigger reputation than him.

Even Jurgen Klopp, one of the biggest names in football, can have trouble - as we saw just this week in a public spat with Mohamed Salah.

Now, ‘worry’ might be strong. It’s more of a question mark that hangs over Slot until we know and that’s the consequence of hiring someone who hasn’t competed at the top level before.

Deeney makes it clear that Slot could well take to it naturally, and the players will certainly give him a chance. It is a question mark, though, and the biggest thing facing the Dutchman in his first season.
