£43m Liverpool target is closing in on move this month, Arne Slot still wants him

Liverpool's long-term target is nearing an exit from his current club this summer with the player still on the Reds' radar.

Liverpool have been very quiet on the transfer front so far this summer. Despite a lot of changes at Anfield behind the scenes, the club is yet to make any drastic changes to new head-coach Arne Slot's playing squad.

But that could be about to change in August. The market as a whole is expected to speed up with the conclusion of the Copa America, the European Championships and the Olympics.

With the conclusion of all those international competitions - players will be able to move freely without any commitments. Naturally, that will increase the transfer activity of Liverpool as well.

The expectation at Anfield is that Liverpool are bracing themselves for a hectic month ahead.

The latest on Liverpool target Johan Bakayoko's future

One player who has been heavily linked with Liverpool this summer is Johan Bakayoko. The PSV winger is reportedly available for around £43m as per Sky Germany and he has been viewed as a potential option to replace Mohamed Salah on the right-wing.

Liverpool are not the only club who are interested in his services either. According to Belgian football journalist, Sasha Tavolieri, RB Leipzig are also considering Bakayoko as an option to replace Dani Olmo - who is set to sign for Barcelona.

Tavolieri claims that Bakayoko is closing in on an exit from PSV Eindhoven this month and that he is still on the shortlist of Liverpool, as well as other Premier League clubs.

Whether the Reds decide to make a move remains to be seen. Bakayoko certainly ticks the profile in terms of his age and his performance levels over the course of the last few seasons.

However, £43m is a steep sum for a player who has only proven himself in the Eredivisie. Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes and the rest of the recruitment team at Liverpool may feel they can get better value for their money elsewhere.
