Ever since Arne Slot became Liverpool's new head coach, he has surprised fans and pundits with his ability to innovate within the team.

After the Reds failed to secure Martin Zubimendi's signature in the summer for example, he turned to Ryan Gravenberch as Liverpool's new defensive midfielder - a move which has been almost seamless.

His cool and calm approach to football has been a welcome addition to the Premier League, and it appears as though Slot almost thrives when given the opportunity to problem-solve.

As such, Darwin Nunez's mixed run of form this season has allowed Slot to try different things in order for the team to succeed.

Luis Diaz's new striker role

When the Reds came against Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in November, Luis Diaz was played in a new central role, while Nunez was benched for most of the occasion.

Liverpool fans and pundits alike were left with confusion, assuming that Cody Gakpo and Diaz would eventually switch positions and that Diaz would be on the left-hand side.

However, instead, Slot gave the Colombian a free-roaming role whereby he would be front and centre of attacks, getting more on the ball and adding a new dynamic to Liverpool's forward line.

He finished the game with a hat-trick and now Slot has a brand new option available to him, should he want to change the set-up tactically in the future.

Although it was understood that when Diogo Jota and Nunez were both fit, then the team's main personnel would take up the No9 role and Diaz would focus more on playing wing. However, this has now been confirmed by Slot to not be the case.

Arne Slot's fluid forward line

Speaking in his press conference on Friday ahead of the Reds' visit to Tottenham on Sunday, he revealed the plans he has for Diaz.

He said: People said a week ago that Darwin Nunez’s numbers aren't high enough but he has now got a goal and an assist

"Lucho can play in that position. He has done very well for us in that role. He has played more games as a winger but we know he can do it. Darwin and Jota are there but Lucho is definitely an option."

Opposition teams will be continually kept on their toes by Slot as a whole number of Liverpool's forwards could end up playing as strikers, and the players that get chosen will be tasked with a number of different tactics in order to keep the attack fresh with ideas.

The team is currently on a 20-game unbeaten streak and victory in North London will ensure that Liverpool are top of the Premier League come Christmas Day.
