Alexis Mac Allister was spotted watching the Davis Cup in Manchester on Friday with his partner, Ailen Cova.

The group stage game between Great Britain and Argentina came just days after the midfielder starred for his country in his own sport. Now it was the turn of those with the rackets.

And it will have been a joyous day out for Mac Allister, as his compatriots dispatched their British opponents with ease. Recent US Open semi-finalist Jack Draper was seen off 7-6(7-4) 7-5 by Francisco Cerundolo, whilst Dan Evans lost 6-2 7-5 to Tomás Martín Etcheverry.

The trip to the Manchester Arena came hot on the heels of a trip back home for Mac Allister, as he joined up with his compatriots for a pair of World Cup qualifiers. The Red opened the scoring against Chile at Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires but unfortunately hobbled off on the 79th minute with an apparent injury. Argentina ran out 3-0 winners.

With the Anfield faithful fearing the worst, and manager Lionel Scaloni admitting that Mac Allister had a ‘muscle overload’ when he joined the Argentinian camp, fears were slightly relieved when he made a 25-minute cameo four days later as Argentina suffered only their second loss in nearly two years. Fellow Red Luis Diaz played all 90 minutes as Colombia defeated the world champions 2-1.

Mac Allister’s public appearance gives little in the way of answers as to whether he will start against Nottingham Forest at Anfield. Manager Arne Slot admitted in his pre-match press conference that the Argentinian did train with the team and he expects him to be with the squad tomorrow.

There is still doubt over Mac Allister’s role this soon after an injury concern, and with Liverpool due to play seven games over the next three weeks, caution may be advisable. The Reds travel to Italy on Tuesday for their Champions League opener against the seven-time European champions AC Milan.
