Liverpool are reportedly tracking centre-back valued at €25 million
Liverpool are interested in Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer, according to Goal's Neil Jones, as cited by Anfield Edition on Twitter.
The journalist has revealed that the Reds are tracking the 25-year-old. Jones further added that Bremer, who's contract expires in June 2024, is valued at €25 million by Torino.
Anfield Watch Verdict
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp does possess plenty of options in central defence (Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez).
Therefore, as things stand, it would be fair to say that Bremer would be a squad player at Anfield if the club were to sign him.
However, there are rumours circulating that Gomez could push for a move away from Liverpool in the summer due to his lack of playing time this season.
The 24-year-old has only made 17 appearances for the Reds across the 2021-22 campaign. So, if Gomez was to depart Anfield this summer, Bremer would be a decent replacement.
The Torino centre-back is a good player. Bremer, 25, has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.25 across the 2021-22 Serie A campaign.
Mergim Vojvoda has had plenty of good things to say about his teammate in the past.
As quoted by TuttoMercatoWEB, he said the following earlier this year: “Physically, he (Bremer) is strong. He works hard and as soon as I arrived, I was impressed by how much he trained.
"He is also fast, he is tall and has made a great leap in quality on a technical level, with the ball at his feet. Work pays off, you can see it with him.”
The aforementioned figures and comments highlight that Bremer is a very good footballer. But, we don't see the club signing him unless someone departs (potentially Gomez).
We would prefer to see the Englishman stay at Anfield, as he does possess quality. Gomez played at centre-back for the majority of Liverpool's title-winning season (2019-20, 28 Premier League appearances).
Unfortunately since then, injuries have impacted the defender's career. Gomez is only 24 years of age. So, he has plenty of time to break into the Reds' first-team again.
According to Jones, Gomez would prefer to stay at Liverpool, which is a positive sign. But, who knows what to believe.
There is so much speculation regarding Gomez's future.
