Liverpool are interested in signing Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The report makes it clear that the Reds could make a move for the 26-year-old in the near future. Skriniar's contract expires in June 2023.

There has been no news suggesting that the Slovakia international plans on extending his stay at the San Siro.

Skriniar possesses a current market value of €65 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Skriniar is a talented player. The centre-back has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.00 across the 2021-22 Serie A campaign.

Skriniar is also an experienced footballer. The 26-year-old has made 194 appearances for Inter Milan's first-team.

The aforementioned figures highlight that Skriniar would add depth and quality to Liverpool's defence.

However, the Reds already possess a number of options in central defence (Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez).

Therefore, it would not make sense for Liverpool to make a move for Skriniar.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear in the past that he won't just sign players for the sake of it.

As quoted by The Athletic, the German told Norwegian broadcaster TV2 the following back in August 2021: “It is summer and the transfer window is open, then everyone expects some player signings. We will see what happens. Let’s go through the squad. Do you want to buy a new fullback? A new goalkeeper? We already have good players there."

Klopp added: "If you want to buy such players, you have to spend a lot of money. We do not have to do that, because the players are already here.

“You have to make changes from time to time, but then there must be room to do it. We do not want more players. If something happens somewhere, something can happen somewhere else, but it makes no sense to add more players.”

Only time will tell if Liverpool are genuinely interested in Skriniar.
