Liverpool could make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

According to The Telegraph, as cited by Anfield Watch on Twitter, the Reds are monitoring the England international.

Phillips is coming off an average 2021-22 campaign. The 26-year-old only made 23 appearances for Leeds United due to a serious hamstring injury.

Phillips' contract does not expire until the summer of 2024. He possesses a current market value of £45 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Phillips is a solid player. There is a reason why he averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.01 across the 2020-21 Premier League campaign (29 appearances).

Also, comments from England boss Gareth Southgate certainly back up the aforementioned argument.

“He’s been excellent,” the Three Lions boss said back in September 2021, as quoted by TeamTalk.

“The way he has taken to international football, it hasn’t surprised us because what we’d seen with Leeds, even (when he played) in the Championship, we felt (he) could convert into our team. We felt he could play an important role with us.

“To play in the enormity of the matches he did in the summer and play as well as he did is massive credit to him.

“He’s a very, very good player and he’s been a really important part of this – we’re 16 games unbeaten (in regulation time) now and he’s been a huge part of that.”

Therefore, we believe that Phillips could be a decent signing for Liverpool. The Reds do possess plenty of options in midfield (Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott).

But, you can never have too many good players in your squad.

However, only time will tell if Liverpool are genuinely interested in acquiring Phillips' services. The summer transfer window is always full of surprises.
