Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich's star forward

Liverpool are interested in signing Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski this summer, according to El Nacional, as cited by the Liverpool Echo.

The report states that if the 33-year-old indicates that he wants to leave the Allianz Arena in the coming months, the Reds could attempt to sign him for £70 million.

Lewandowski's current contract expires in June 2023.

With that being the case, the report further adds that Lewandowski and Bayern Munich are likely to part ways this summer if they can't agree on new terms.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Lewandowski is a world-class footballer. The striker has found the back of the net 45 times in 37 appearances for Bayern Munich this season.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp worked with Lewandowski between 2010-14. One year ago, the German said that the Poland international is the best player that he has ever worked with.

"It would actually be unfair to say that about any other player than Lewy," Klopp told SportBild, as quoted by the Bundesliga's official website.

"What he made out of his potential, how he pushed himself to become the player he is today, that's extraordinary."

Despite that being the case, we don't want to see Liverpool attempt to sign Lewandowski for £70 million this summer.

As we have pointed out, he is 33 years of age. The reality is, Lewandowski's career is coming to an end.

Liverpool would be better off saving their money and investing it in a future star. Fenway Sports Group, the club's owners, have historically purchased players under the age of 30.

Therefore, we don't see Liverpool making a big-money move for Lewandowski. The Reds also have plenty of attacking options.
