Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing attacking midfielder valued at £50m

Liverpool could make a move for Porto attacking midfielder Otavio, according to A BOLA, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.

The report states that the Reds are keen on the 27-year-old. The story further adds that Otavio possesses a release clause of £50 million.

The Portugal international's contract does not expire until the summer of 2025, so a free transfer is off the table for the time being.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Otavio is a solid player. The attacking midfielder has scored five goals and registered 12 assists in 40 appearances for Porto's first-team this season.

Otavio has also been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 7.30 across the 2021-22 campaign.

Therefore, we can see why Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, the president of Porto, was happy to tie the Portugal international down to a long-term deal back in March 2021.

The 84-year-old told Porto's official website the following once Otavio extended his contract: "May you (Otavio) continue to contribute your effort and your value to FC Porto's victories. Get ready because we will have many games to win this year and many games to make the envious (clubs who failed to sign the attacking midfielder) even more jealous."

The aforementioned figures/comments highlight that Otavio would add a bit of depth and quality to Liverpool's attack/midfield.

But, we don't believe that the club needs to be spending £50 million on an attacking player. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz at his disposal, so goals aren't an issue.

Liverpool have scored 75 goals in 29 Premier League matches this season. The club would be better off spending their money elsewhere.

We would only want to see Liverpool make a move for Otavio if one of Klopp's attackers departed the club in the summer.
