Liverpool could make a move for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio, according to Fichajes, as cited by Anfield Edition's Twitter account.

The report states that the Reds are considering making a £30 million bid for the 26-year-old.

The story further adds that Asensio is open to a new challenge and Real Madrid would be prepared to sell him.

The Spaniard's contract expires in the summer of 2023. Transfermarkt value Asensio at €40 million.

Anfield Watch Verdict

Asensio is certainly a talented footballer. The forward has scored 46 goals and registered 23 assists in 222 appearances for Real Madrid.

Asensio has been averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.91 across the 2021-22 La Liga campaign.

Former Real Madrid ace Jorge Valdano is certainly a fan of the Spaniard.

"I like that type of player who is very smart and does the simple things well. I like him because he has a lot of personality and makes very little mistakes in his decisions. He's tremendously precise and accurate," he told Marca back in 2017.

Valdano found the back of the net 55 times in 116 appearances for Real Madrid, so he has a fair idea of what makes a good forward.

The aforementioned statistics and comments highlight that Asensio is a good player.

Therefore, we would not be against Liverpool making a move for the 26-year-old. But, we would be surprised if the club were to sign Asensio anytime soon.

The reality is, Jurgen Klopp has plenty of attacking options at his disposal (Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz).

Unless a forward departs in the near future, Liverpool don't really need to sign Asensio. It will be interesting to see who the Reds sign come the summer.

There has been no news suggesting that Liverpool have a specific player in mind. But, we are sure that will change the closer we get to the summer transfer window.
