Liverpool are interested in signing Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio.

According to Sport, the Reds are one of the 'main bidders' for the 26-year-old. The report further adds that Asensio could be sold for a fee of €60 million this summer.

Asensio's contract does not expire until June 2023, so a free transfer is off the cards for at least 12 months.

Sport has claimed the following: 'Marco Asensio’s future is up in the air. His contract ends in 2023 and Real Madrid have doubts whether to renew it, or wait for offers to transfer him.

'An important group of European clubs from the most powerful Leagues are interested in his signing. In the Premier Arsenal and Liverpool are the main bidders; in the Bundesliga Bayern and Dortmund are also interested; in Serie A Juventus and Milan are willing to bid and PSG could approach his signing as a grievance for losing (Kylian) Mbappe against their interests.

'The striker has a release clause of €700 million but he could be sold for €50 or €60 million.'

Anfield Watch Verdict

Asensio is a talented player. The winger has found the back of the net 49 times and registered 24 assists in 235 appearances for Real Madrid's first-team.

It wasn't that long ago Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti praised Asensio's ability.

“Asensio is very important for us”, he said back in Februry, as quoted by Marca.

“He has quality and commitment. He’s a very important player for us and we’ve won tonight via his greatest quality, his shooting.”

Therefore, we would not be against Liverpool making a move for Asensio. He would certainly add quality and depth to the club's forward line.

But, only time will tell if Liverpool are genuinely interested in signing Asensio. On another note, hopefully the Reds can have a big pre-season and start the 2022-23 campaign in decent form.
