Liverpool are pursuing 22-year-old Dutch winger with 70 goal contributions

David Ornstein has confirmed that Liverpool, among other clubs, are pursuing PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.

According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Liverpool are among a host of clubs pursuing 22-year-old PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo.

Ornstein also says that if suitable offers come in this summer, PSV will cooperate, which has led to the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool showing their interest and holding serious talks about signing Gakpo.

PSV are not known to have set an asking price for Gakpo, however, the anticipation is that if Gakpo does leave it will be for a fee in the region of €35-50m.

The 22-year-old is having an unbelievable season with PSV, scoring 16 goals and grabbing 15 assists in 37 games for the Dutch club.

The 22-year-old has been playing for his boyhood club since 2007 and he's clawed his way up through their youth system to become their starman.

Gakpo has 37 goals and 33 assists in his PSV career, which has spanned 125 games.

During the January transfer window, Liverpool were linked with the 22-year-old and apparently they 'held talks' with Gakpo according to Voetbal International, as cited by Sport Witness.

Despite the signing of Luis Diaz from FC Porto in January, it looks like the Reds are preparing to make an offer for another wide player in the summer.

Jurgen Klopp's side have already been linked to Raphinha this season and the talk around West Ham's Jarrod Bowen won't go away.

Gakpo has only just signed a new deal with PSV that would see him stay at the club until 2026, however, we have seen in the past that contracts are sometimes used to help a club hold the value of a player before selling him.

If Liverpool did want him, then the 22-year-old would have to come in as a back-up to Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

If he is willing to fight for his place in Klopp's side then it would be another great addition for the future by Michael Edwards, Julian Ward & co.
