Liverpool are currently on the longest unbeaten run of any EPL side

Liverpool currently sit at the summit of the Premier League table in no small part thanks to a recent unbeaten run that extends to 13 matches.

This run, the longest currently active in the league, is more than double that of their nearest competitor - Manchester City, unbeaten in five matches.

The Citizens' last league defeat came at Villa Park (0-1) on 6 December 2023.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have lost their last two league games on the bounce, while fellow title challengers Aston Villa last lost away at Manchester United on Boxing Day (3-2).

The Reds' formidable run has not only propelled them to the top spot but has also solidified their status as serious contenders for the coveted league title.

Five draws

Throughout this unbeaten stretch, Liverpool have displayed significant resilience, securing eight wins and five draws.

After a 2-2 draw away at Brighton at the start of October and a 1-1 draw at Luton a month later, the most recent of these draws came against formidable opponents, including back-to-back home draws in December against Manchester United (0-0) and Arsenal (1-1), and a 1-1 draw on 25 November at the Etihad against reigning champions Manchester City.

VAR fury

While Liverpool fans are undoubtedly celebrating their team's recent achievements, there is a lingering sense of what could have been.

The unbeaten streak could have extended to a staggering 29 games had it not been for the controversial loss at Tottenham Hotspur on 30 September (the previous league defeat was the 4-1 at the Etihad on 1 April).

The 2-1 defeat was marred by several contentious VAR decisions, including the decision to chalk off a perfectly legitimate Luis Diaz goal and the sendings off of both Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota.

However, the loss (the side's only league defeat of the season so far) has not derailed Liverpool's overall campaign, as they have rebounded strongly to maintain their grip on the top spot.

Can they keep it going?

As Liverpool continue to make headlines with their impressive performances, the question on everyone's minds now is whether they can sustain this remarkable form and clinch the Premier League title - especially with a revitalised Manchester City side now breathing down their necks.

Next up in the league is a trip to Bournemouth on Sunday. The Cherries have lost nine of their last 10 against Liverpool and will be desperate to set the record straight.
