Liverpool's January strategy for £40m Robertson replacement
While it would be a stretch to refer to Liverpool’s left-back situation as ‘woes’, referring to it as a situation isn’t a stretch.
Andy Robertson turns 31 during the season and has consistently been a weaker point of Liverpool’s amazing back line, giving away penalties in both the games against Southampton and Real Madrid in the past week.

And whilst Kostas Tsimikas wasn’t seen as the long-term future, he had begun to impress as Arne Slot was handing him places in the starting XI. That is before he went out with an ankle injury.
As a result, Liverpool seem keen to bolster the position as soon as they can. An Anfield Watch exclusive revealed that the club had asked to open negotiations with Bournemouth’s Hungarian international Milos Kerkez.
But facing competition from Manchester United for the Hungarian, the club are still keeping their options open.
GIVEMESPORT reports that the club are considering a bid in January for Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.
The American left-back has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, becoming one of the most highly sought-after talents in the Premier League.
At 27 years old, it seems like a move to play European football would be now or never.
Could Liverpool sign Antonee Robinson?
The report states that Liverpool’s approach would be to see if a formal offer could make Robinson open to a move, before using the player’s desires to get the deal done.
With Robinson’s current deal expiring in summer 2028, Fulham have the high ground. They are reportedly hoping to price Liverpool out of a deal, placing a £40m price tag on the American’s head as they are hell bent on not letting him go mid-season.
The Reds face competition from Manchester City who have been monitoring Robinson too. Amid their own struggles, a move to a less Josko Gvardiol-shaped left-back could help to steady their ship that is rapidly taking on water.
Liverpool and Fulham have a good relationship, not least seen through the transfers for Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, which the report states leaves Liverpool thinking they have the upper hand.
Robinson is an incredibly talented player, with great acceleration and vision. He could be an immediate plug-and-play signing should Arne Slot want to reduce reliance on Robertson.
But this shouldn’t rule out Kerkez who, at 21, is a serious option for the future.
