"It feels amazing, this is my dream": Liverpool announce Wataru Endo signing
Wataru Endo has joined Liverpool on a four-year contract from Stuttgart for a fee of around £16.2 million.
The 30-year-old Japan international joins the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai as Jurgen Klopp’s third summer signing.
After missing out on Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia to Chelsea, Endo is Liverpool’s first defensive midfielder to replace departing duo Fabinho and Jordan Henderson after their moves to Saudi Arabia.
“I'm very happy right now and I'm so excited to join a big club in Liverpool,” Endo told Liverpool's official website.
“It feels amazing, and this is my dream. It's always [been] a dream to play [in the] Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world. It's a dream come true for me.
“It's going to be the first time for me that I play at Anfield. I can't wait to play at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans.”
Klopp has been very vocal on the need for Liverpool to delve into the market for more midfield reinforcements and is very pleased with Endo’s signing.
“I'm really happy. Wataru is a really good player," said Klopp. "He is very experienced and loves to work extremely hard.”
“Experienced player, captain of Stuttgart, captain of Japan, speaks good English, nice fella, family man, machine on the pitch, good footballer on top of that, sensational attitude.”
Liverpool will hope to have the 30-year-old ready to face Bournemouth on Saturday, however if that comes too soon, expect to see him away at Newcastle next Sunday.
