Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer for an exciting midfielder who is a German international.

On the surface the midfield may feel like the least of Richard Hughes' priority given there is so much else he needs to sort out in defence and in attack.

However, despite doing a midfield rebuild in the summer of 2023, there is an argument to make that Liverpool are still lacking one midfielder from making this team perfect.

The Reds are in need of a holding midfielder who can take some of the burden from Ryan Gravenberch's shoulders and provide both respite and competition.

That's why Hughes tried to sign Martin Zubimendi last summer and that is why the Reds also pursued a move for Moises Caicedo before that deal collapsed.

Wataru Endo is not considered a long-term and viable option for Liverpool. Arne Slot is yet to throw him into a big game, and he's earned a lot of his minutes in the cups and lesser ties this season.

Going forward, Liverpool need an option more suited to Slot's style of play and it looks like Hughes is trying to get a deal over the line for exactly that type of player.

The type of player Liverpool are looking for is someone who excels in reading the game, is able to make key interceptions as a result and cover a lot of ground.

But at the same time Slot needs this player to be comfortable on the ball, be quick and incisive in his passing and build attacks as the anchor in the midfield.

There aren't many players who suit this profile but one player who definitely fits the bill is German international Angelo Stiller.

The 24-year-old has been an absolute revelation in the Bundesliga over the years and he suits the profile we just described above to a tee.

Stiller averages a whopping 85 passes per 90 minutes this season. This ranks him in the 97th percentile as per FBref.

He reads the game really well and is solid defensively but absolutely thrives in the build, being able to send the ball into dangerous territories that create problems for the opposition's defence.

Now according to a report from Fichajes, Liverpool are preparing a €50m to sign Stiller after he caught the attention of the club's scouts.

The report claims Stiller has been dubbed as the next Joshua Kimmich and that Liverpool are very interested in bringing him to Anfield this summer.

If that report is true, it would certainly be an excellent move. Stiller at €50m is a smart addition, someone who reinforces the squad and brings even more stability to Slot's midfield.

His progressive passing and his ability to control possession will make Liverpool even more dominant in this area. Not to mention he won't just provide cover and competition for Gravenberch, Stiller can also play as a no.8 in Alexis Mac Allister's role and could form a frightening double pivot with Gravenberch.

Of course Hughes has a lot to sort out finding the club a new left-back, potentially a new right-back as well as new attackers, so we are not sure how prioritised a midfielder will be.

But Stiller is one to watch. He's a player who could be a fantastic addition.
