'Never, ever': Anfield moment SHOCKED Premier League captain this season

The Anfield crowd shocked Fulham captain Tom Cairney earlier this season. He’d ‘never, ever’ seen anything like it.

Fulham captain Tom Cairney appeared on The Footballer’s Football Podcast this week where he discussed his 'game of the season'. Surprisingly, he picked one Fulham lost 4-3 at Anfield.

It was, to be fair to Cairney, a mad game. Liverpool took the lead through a Bernd Leno own-goal but ex-Red Harry Wilson equalised four minutes later.

Alexis Mac Allister scored an absolute worldie to put Liverpool back in front on 38 minutes, only for Fulham's Kenny Tete to equalise again in first-half stoppage time. The Cottagers were then the ones to take the lead, going 3-2 up with 10 minutes to play thanks to Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

Then came a brilliant strike from Wataru Endo, though, who levelled things with three to play. Just a minute later, Trent Alexander-Arnold popped up with another fantastic goal that won it for Liverpool.

Tom Cairney on Liverpool 4-3 Fulham

“Do you remember Liverpool’s goals against us? Every single one of them was from like 35 yards,” said Cariney. “Endo scored, Trent scored, Mac Allister scored from about 40 yards and I’ve never, ever experienced a ground so loud as when Trent scored the winner.

“For the wrong reasons, obviously I didn’t enjoy it, but it was an incredible game to be involved in. As game of the season it was mental but for the wrong reasons for us.”

The power of Anfield was certainly on display that day. Endo's goal set things up but Alexander-Arnold's felt like an inevitably with the crowd the way it was.

A fantastic game and really, the kind we hope Liverpool hang onto in the post-Klopp era. It encapsulated the intensity, drive, and mentality that the Reds show at their best - a game where things weren't entirely going their way but they were always going to overcome it.
