'Super talent' now PUSHING to replace Andy Robertson at Liverpool

A young Liverpool star has been earning the attention of his national team - and he could find himself replacing stalwart Andy Robertson before long.

With Robertson finding himself increasingly sidelined through injury and fitness issues, Kostas Tsimikas has so far deputised very ably for the Reds this season, but a young academy star out on loan is making a convincing case to be next in line for the left-back position.

Owen Beck has now received a call-up from ex-Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy for the senior Welsh national team for their games against Iceland and Montenegro in the Nations League. Fellow Liverpool academy graduate Lewis Koumas has also been included after his good form on loan at Stoke.

Beck himself has also been on loan, enjoying a decent run of games for Blackburn Rovers which was then curtailed by his sending off against Preston North End, in part due to his reaction to being bitten by an opposing player.

Both Koumas and Beck are adding a much-needed youthful edge to what is an ageing Welsh side, although there has been an upturn in results since Bellamy took over in July of this year.

Can Beck really replace Robertson?

Whether or not Beck can displace Robertson will depend entirely on his displays for Blackburn this season, but with the Welshman a good eight years younger than Liverpool’s current first-choice left-back, there is scope for Beck to step into that role sooner rather than later.

He is clearly a big prospect who has been described as a 'super talent' by Jurgen Klopp in the past.

Of course, it would be remiss to point out that just because Robertson is now into his 30s, he should be replaced as a matter of urgency. We’ve seen the performance levels of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah remain incredibly high despite their advancing years, so it’s eminently possible Robertson would also be able to.

That being said, the aforementioned injury and fitness problems are mounting up for him, so that opens the door for any potential first-team action for Beck from next season onwards.
