Liverpool's Andre proposal knocked back by Fluminense

Liverpool were willing to make a bid for Andre Trindade, but Fluminense have knocked the offer back before it was even made official.

Last week Anfield Watch reported that Liverpool's pursuit of Andre depended on whether they would be willing to pay a premium to sign the midfielder this summer.

22-year-old Andre is currently competing in the Copa Libertadores (South America's Champions League equivalent) with Fluminense, who are set to take on Olimpia of Paraguay on 25 August in the first leg of the quarter finals.

Fluminense have never won the trophy before but are hopeful of their chances this year and, as such, are extremely reluctant to part with a star player mid-campaign.

The Brazil club have always maintained that Andre can sign for another club this summer, but not join until the January window.

Anfield Watch was told that for €25m (£21.5m), Fluminense would allow Andre to leave with 80% of his economic rights, as well as future add-ons – but only after the club's continental campaign is wrapped up.

Globo Esporte now report that Liverpool were willing to put up €30m (£25.5m) to sign the one-cap Brazil international this summer, but it is not enough to make Fluminense change their stance and the Reds have "not even put the proposal on paper."

Globo's report adds that had Fluminense been eliminated in the last round against Argentinos Juniors, there would have been a good chance that negotiations could've advanced, but while the Rio-based club remain in with a shot at glory they aren't interested in coming to the table – even for, what is noted, would've been the biggest sale in the club's history.

It has been reported that Liverpool are now looking at multi-functional players rather than pure defensive midfielders, with Cheick Doucoure (Crystal Palace) and Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich) also linked.
