Liverpool transfer news: Reds make 'strong moves' for Swedish prodigy

Liverpool, RB Leipzig and Bologna are the leading clubs keeping tabs on BK Häcken's rising star Momodou Sonko, according to reports coming out of Sweden.

The 18-year-old winger has been making waves since his debut with the Swedish club's first team in 2022, amassing an impressive record of 14 goals and eight assists from 44 games.

During this time, Sonko's performances and potential have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from several European clubs.

According to Fotboll Direkt, the three aforementioned sides are actively pursuing the talented youngster and are all making "strong moves" to secure his signature.

Officials from these clubs have even held 'secret' meetings in Gothenburg with Häcken representatives to discuss the prospect of bringing Sonko to their respective teams, the report says.

Offer rejected

The report went on to say that Häcken had already turned down an offer exceeding €4m, though the club making this offer remained unnamed.

There are, however, indications that Serie A side Bologna might be prepared to table an offer in the range of €6-7m for the Sweden Under-19 international.

Sonko's current contract with Häcken is set to last until 2025, and the club reportedly values him at SEK 80 million (around €7m), making him a sought-after prospect among top European clubs.

"Huge" interest

In response to the increasing interest in Sonko, Häcken's sporting director, Martin Ericsson, recently told Fotbollkanalen: "The interest is huge. Then it must be said that there have been some other young players who end up in the spotlight in Sweden. But the interest is great, especially considering the size of clubs."

However, Ericsson emphasized that Sonko is not a player who will be available on the cheap. He said that if any deal were to materialise, numerous factors must align.

That said, Sonko himself recently admitted he is aware of the interest in his talent, while he has friends pushing him towards an Anfield switch.

He said: "I have some friends who are Liverpool fans and some who are Barça fans who would really like me to join the club they support. It's a bit fun sometimes, but it can also be a bit much."
