Liverpool already know who will replace Mo Salah, he’s incredible
The club already knows the perfect player to replace Mo Salah and he's incredible.
The Egyptian's contract is expiring at Anfield, but there is still time for Liverpool to come to a resolution that won't end with Salah leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Liverpool Transfer Latest: Wonderkid wanted as Reds plan MONSTER deal
The reality is that no one cal replace him at this very moment in time. Salah is simply one of a kind and having one if not the best individual seasons of all time in the Premier League.
He's on course to win the Ballon d'Or and at this stage he is without a shadow of a doubt the best player on the planet.
To lose him on a free transfer when he's still performing at the peak of his career would be devastating for Liverpool and that is why the hope remains that the club will renew his deal.
But with Salah 32-years-old already, eventually he will need to be replaced and there is already a perfect player lined up to join Liverpool.
EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool convinced Lewis Hall can make instant Anfield impact
Why Yankuba Minteh is destined to replace Mo Salah at Liverpool
On Saturday, I had the privilege of attending Brighton's 4-0 victory over Southampton at the St Marys Stadium. It was a drubbing with Brighton's attacking stars standing out.
Joao Pedro, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter may have all scored but it was the right-winger Yankuba Minteh who caught the eye the most.
The Gambian star registered an assist in the game, latching onto a loose ball to set-up Rutter for an easy finish. He was a constant threat for the whole game completing the most dribbles (3) on the pitch and could have scored too had it not been for the brilliance of Aaron Ramsdale in between the sticks.
It was a terrific performance on the back of Minteh's brace against Chelsea. He's only 20 years old but he's already shown he's a man for the big occasion, scoring at Old Trafford and against Tottenham earlier on in the season as well.
Minteh has everything to make it to the top of the game. Back in Gambia, they nicknamed him 'Messi' for his ability to take players on one vs one.
But on Saturday, it wasn't just his offensive qualities that convinced me he was the perfect option for Liverpool. It was his defensive qualities, too.
In his pre-match press conference against Newcastle United on Tuesday, Arne Slot praised Salah not just for his goal and assist against Manchester City but his defensive contributions.
"His [Salah] defensive work rate, especially in the second half was outstanding," Slot said.
Against Southampton, Minteh's defensive work-rate was there for all to see. He competed in 10 defensive duels and won seven of them, constantly running back to help out his full-backs.
The energy with which he played made me convinced he was tailor made for Slot's system. This season Minteh ranks in the top 10 among wingers in the Premier League for defensive duels per 90 (6.11).
At the same time, he's also averaging 0.70 goal contributions per 90 in the league. Those are already incredible numbers for an attacker in his debut campaign.
Minteh isn't ready to succeed Salah right now, but in one season or two seasons time, he will be.
It's important to remember, Slot worked with the Gambian at Feyenoord. In fact, Minteh flourished under the Liverpool head coach, who made him a key piece of the Dutch side's attack.
In the summer, Liverpool were credited with an interest in Minteh and Anfield Watch understands that was largely down to Slot's admiration for the player.
As a left-footed right-winger, Minteh fits the profile. He's exactly the type of player Slot likes to work with and I simply cannot see a better option for Liverpool to replace Salah in the future.
Minteh is simply destined to become a superstar and there is no one better to unleash that potential than Slot himself.
