Alisson SNUBS Liverpool teammate for Man Utd flop

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has played with some legendary players down throughout his career.

As first-choice in the Brazil squad for nearly a decade - and with an impressive club career with Internacional, Roma and Liverpool - the 32-year-old has come across the best the game has to offer.

He was recently asked by OneFootball to name the best XI he could assemble from the ranks of his teammates. He was generous enough to pick plenty of his fellow Reds - players who have shared victories with him in the Champions League, Premier League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and more.

But there were a few eyebrow-raising selections where Liverpool players past and present might feel slightly ignored.

Fabinho OUT, Casemiro IN

Alisson chose himself in goal, no surprise there. At right-back he went for Trent Alexander-Arnold, a solid endorsement of the Scouser’s skills. Among the other contenders for the position might have been Dani Alves but his name is mud.

The centre-backs on offer were Virgil van Dijk and Thiago Silva - a pretty solid choice that blends club and country together. At left-back, Alisson opted for Marcelo over Andy Robertson.

In the context of their career achievements, that might be fair enough but Alisson didn’t win as much behind the Real Madrid legend as he did with Robertson.

And in midfield, the Liverpool snubs continue.

There is no space for Fabinho, maybe the biggest Liverpool-tinged omission, and his place instead went to Casemiro. Again the Brazilian has had a strong career for Real Madrid - as well as a Copa America to his name - but he has been a flop in the two full seasons he’s played in England for Manchester United.

Salah secure

Brazilians make up the other roles in the midfield trio with surprise selection Renato Augusto alongside former Red Philippe Coutinho.

Although Coutinho and Alisson are both Liverpool favourites, their times on Merseyside never actually overlapped. Famously the Coutinho money was spent on Alisson and Van Dijk after he decamped for Barcleona.

Up front he’s gone for Mo Salah, a teammate not only at Liverpool but also at Roma. There is no dispute on that count. His striker is Roberto Firmino, a solid choice given his capability in Red and also in the colours of Brazil.

And on the left wing Alisson went for Neymar.

Mane over Neymar?

He’s Brazil’s all-time top goalscorer but it’s difficult to argue that Neymar has had a better career than Sadio Mane, for example, since Alisson moved to Europe.

The only trophy he’s managed for Brazil was the 2013 Confederations Cup and no Champions League since 2015. In contrast, Mane has won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal as well as every major honour European football has to offer with the Reds.

If you ask us, Alisson’s team should have looked something like this: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Thiago Silva, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Coutinho; Salah, Mane, Firmino
