Late-returning Alexis Mac Allister set to play just ONE pre-season game for Liverpool
Having played a pivotal role in Argentina's 1-0 victory over Colombia in their Copa America triumph, Liverpool's Alexis Mac Allister is currently enjoying a well-earned break from the demands of top-level football. However, his holidays won't last long.
After a major international summer, many players are already returning to their clubs in preparation for the upcoming season. In fact, several Liverpool first-team players, such as Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo, have already returned.
The trio participated in the club's first pre-season friendly, a behind-closed-doors match against Preston North End, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for the Reds.
However, players who advanced to the later stages of both Euro 2024 and Copa America, including Luis Diaz, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Jota and Joe Gomez, are still on holiday.
Mac Allister will miss two US friendlies
Among them, Mac Allister stands out as a key figure, having been instrumental in Argentina's Copa America victory, contributing two crucial assists during the tournament.
Now, it has been confirmed (via DaveOCKOP) that Mac Allister will return to his club side on 2 August, following his holiday leave.
The 25-year-old joined Liverpool from Brighton & Hove Albion last year and quickly established himself as a central figure in Liverpool’s midfield. His performances have steadily improved, making him a critical component of the team.
It, therefore, comes as a blow that he will miss a large portion of Arne Slot's first preseason at the helm. Mac Allister will miss the club's upcoming friendlies against Real Betis and Arsenal in the USA.
He could play some part in the friendly against Manchester United on 3 August in South Carolina, but that seems highly unlikely.
After that, Liverpool's only remaining pre-season game is against Sevilla on 11 August.
Should Mac Allister miss that match, his next opportunity to play will be Liverpool’s English Premier League opener against newly promoted Ipswich Town.
