Liverpool’s plan to fund RECORD Alexander Isak transfer

One of Liverpool’s key consistent problems this season has been the lack of a top level out and out central attacker.

Diogo Jota started the season there but injuries have meant he hasn’t had any real chance to find form or consistency there. Darwin Nunez is the natural backup but he’s been lacklustre at best and Arne Slot is clearly frustrated with him.

Luis Diaz was then put in the position to operate as someone who could stretch play. He did it well enough but, fundamentally, that is not his position.

Luckily, the existence of Mo Salah means Liverpool don’t need another essential goalscorer. His 30 goals in all competitions so far this season has seen Liverpool 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League at time of writing.

But the club are clearly very aware that, as good as Salah is, relying on him for over half of their entire goal output isn’t the smartest move in the world.

Hence the interest in Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

Isak was one of the most sought-after attackers in the world when Newcastle signed him and he has lived up to the billing, taking a serious step up this season.

His 24 goal involvements in as many Premier League games has caught the attention of the entire footballing world.

A report by the Mirror has stated that Newcastle are wanting a staggering £150m for the Liverpool target, yet paying it would still be the correct move. Isak is simply that good and would provide the Reds with a dynamic attacking option they simply do not currently have.

But for a team that are looking to make signings in every defensive position and potentially every attacking one too, £150m on one player may be a poor use of funds.

That is, unless you can raise it.

As Anfield Watch have reported, if Liverpool get their way the sales of Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez could total almost exactly the asking price of Isak.

A report earlier today indicated that the Reds are asking for €60-70m (£49.5-57.7m) for Diaz, whilst they turned down a £70m offer for Nunez from Al-Hilal in January, wanting £85m instead.

Put these two together and the club would certainly be able to make up the pocket change to reach £150m.

It’s an unfortunate scenario where Diaz and Nunez perhaps don’t even equal the output that Isak would give Liverpool, particularly if Mo Salah stays at the club for the next few seasons.

It’s going to be a difficult summer. The deals are going to be complex and may take more time than any fan wants.

But make no mistake - this league-dominating side isn’t even Liverpool’s final form.
