Alexander-Arnold set to hand Liverpool a major injury boost

Liverpool are hopeful that Trent Alexander-Arnold will make his comeback from injury in their next Premier League game, against Brighton and Hove Albion on March 31.

The 25-year-old aggravated a knee problem during the league game against Burnley back in February, after originally suffering a minor knee ligament injury following the FA Cup defeat of Arsenal in early January.

“He has a little tear in the lateral ligament of his knee and he will need time to recover,” assistant manager Pep Lijnders said at the time.

Alexander-Arnold attempted a comeback against the Clarets but only lasted 45 minutes and hasn’t been seen in action since.

The England international was spotted on crutches at Wembley for the Carabao Cup final a few weeks back, with Reds fans fearing that his recovery would take longer than expected.

However, it would now appear that the Anfield side will welcome Alexander-Arnold back into the lineup on schedule with the Brighton game taking place following the upcoming international break.

Jurgen Klopp’s side face Sparta Prague in their Europa League, last-16 second-leg tie later this week with an FA Cup quarter-final visit to Manchester United at Old Trafford to come next weekend.

Liverpool's long break between league games

Those games will come too early for the right back but the break is coming at the right time for him as well as the Reds’ other recuperating stars.

“Alexander-Arnold, who also suffered ligament damage, will also undergo his rehabilitation work in the next weeks,” a report in the Daily Mail reads.

“He hopes to return for the next league game against Brighton as a best-case scenario but his rehab work will dictate whether that match falls too soon or not.”

Between the Manchester City game last Sunday and the Brighton game at the end of March, Liverpool will have three weeks between league matches.

With so many top stars still on the sidelines, they are set for a major injury boost for the Premier League title run-in.

The club are currently behind Arsenal at the top of the table by goal difference with City a further point back.

The Brighton game might be too soon to see Alisson Becker and Curtis Jones back in action but Klopp will be hopeful of having something like a full squad to choose from in the next few weeks.
