In and amongst spells with the iconic Adidas stripes on the shirt, Liverpool have flirted with Reebok, Warrior and Umbro as shirt sponsors, with each announcement initially fuelled by excitement before fans begin to yearn for change.

And that's exactly what has happened with Nike over the past five seasons, after delivering some fun designs with bold colours before nostalgia caught back up.

As such it seems the club are set to return to Adidas for their third partnership together, with the first last for 11 years between 1985 and 1996 and the second lasting between 2006 and 2012.

While Liverpool's second spell did not result in similar successes that the club experienced in the first spell, plenty of Liverpool icons repped the Adidas logo, including Steven Gerrard, Daniel Agger and Xabi Alonso.

And now, some of Liverpool's modern-day greats are set to don the iconic brand in a series of new shirts inspired by designs of the past with a fresh look fit for the future.

Predicted Liverpool home kit announced

According to Footy Headlines, which works closely with reliable kit expert, Fumler Rawk, Liverpool's new design is to be based upon elements of the 2006/07 home shirt that Adidas released in the first season of their second spell sponsoring the team.

The colour is to be predominantly dark red, 'officially called 'Strong Red' and will be embossed with white logos.

In addition to the three-stripe logo, the shirt may also include a white stripe trim along the sleeves of the shirt, with the club's new logo used on the shirt instead of the traditional club crest.

The move may directly appeal to Trent Alexander-Arnold who is currently sponsored by Adidas to wear their Predator football boots, although the Scouser will need to sign a contract extension with the club if he is to brandish the shirt at Anfield next season.

In our view, the shirt will adhere to the nostalgic design that fans are looking for, and we are just a Carlsberg shirt sponsorship away from being back in the noughties.
