Liverpool have always had the tendency to produce late drama.

Whether it be thrilling European comebacks or last-minute Premier League winners, the Reds have a history of creating iconic moments in the dying embers of big games.

That never-say-die attitude was on full show again this weekend, with Darwin Nunez the hero on this occasion.

Liverpool's 'Mentality Monsters' looked set for an underwhelming goalless draw against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Saturday, but the Uruguayan forward netted a 99th-minute header to earn the Reds a crucial three points in the Midlands.

It's not the first time that Liverpool have left it late to win this season, nor will it likely be the last, but it's not too surprising when you take a closer look at the Premier League record books.

According to Opta, Liverpool are the team that have produced the most 90th-minute winners in the competition's history, with Nunez's recent effort taking their tally all the way to 44.

That's 12 more than the next best in north London duo Arsenal and Tottenham and 14 more than rivals Manchester United.

Nunez's effort against Forest in the ninth minute of stoppage time was also Liverpool's latest winning goal ever recorded, and the tenth latest goal of any description in Premier League history - Dirk Kuyt's 102nd-minute equalising strike against Arsenal in 2011 the second latest goal in the competition's history.

Saturday's last-gasp strike was Liverpool's third winner in stoppage time in the Premier League this season, adding to Nunez's second in a remarkable 2-1 win over Newcastle United and Harvey Elliott's stunner in victory at Crystal Palace last December.

While not the winning goal, Luis Diaz also netted a 95th-minute equaliser against Luton Town earlier this season.

Liverpool have been regular late scorers in all competitions this season, netting a total of 16 goals in the 90th minute or beyond. Of course, the increased amount of stoppage time this campaign makes that more likely, but it's a staggering total nevertheless.

It certainly means that Liverpool cannot be ruled out of any game this season, even when heading into the final seconds of proceedings, with their intensity and work ethic paying dividends in the closing minutes of matches.
