Liverpool ACCEPT Brentford offer Fabio Carvalho; medical imminent

Fabio Carvalho is one step away from joining Brentford on a permanent transfer from Liverpool, according to reports.

As first reported by Portuguese news outlet A Bola on Saturday afternoon the 21-year-old has reached an agreement with the Bees and is set to undergo a medical before finalising a move back to West London.

Furthermore, as per Times journalist Paul Joyce, the overall package is worth £27.5 million inclusive of add ons, meanwhile the Reds have also negotiated a 17.5% sell on clause and Carvalho's former club Fulham will receive 20 per cent of the profit which entitles them to around £5m.

It was just last week when Liverpool rejected an offer worth up to £15m, from newly-promoted Southampton and it's likely this development will serve as a blow to manager Russell Martin.

"Fabio is a player we have liked for a while. We spoke in January but we couldn't quite get it done for one reason or another," he told Sky Sports. "We had a lot of strength in that position as well. He went and did really well at Hull. The rumour mill at this time of year is always very hot.

"We have been linked with a lot of players, some far from the truth and very true. He is a player that I admire and I like, but I'm sure lots of other managers do as well.

"I don't really have any more information on that right now. We will have to wait and see."

No space for Carvalho

Following loan spells with RB Leipzig and then Hull City last season, the 21-year-old returned to Merseyside earlier in the summer and set about proving his worth to the new Reds head coach Arne Slot.

But despite impressing the Dutchman by netting against Arsenal and Manchester United, ultimately Carvalho has to seek pastures new if he's to get regular game time in the upcoming season.

Most comfortable as a number 10 - a role that could be available if Slot sticks with a 4-2-3-1 system - he does have the likes of Harvey Elliott and Dominik Szoboszlai ahead of him in the pecking order and competition would have been just as fierce in the wide areas.
