Liverpool 0-1 Inter Milan (1-2 agg): Player ratings as Reds qualify for UCL quarter-finals

Despite losing against Inter Milan, Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals and here are our player ratings for the game.

Well... That was an interesting game, to say the least.

We experienced it all. A stunning goal, a red card and a referee that didn't understand the rules of football. It was eventful to say the least.

Despite progressing to the next round, it was a poor performance by Liverpool, something that Jurgen Klopp will have to address before the quarter-finals.

So here are our player ratings for the Liverpool vs Inter Milan game.

Alisson - 7/10

Alisson always seemed very cool and calm in possession this evening. He made a great save to stop Inter from going 1-0 up in the first half and there wasn't much the Brazilian could do to stop Lautaro Martinez's wonder-strike.

Andy Robertson - 6/10

Not the best performance from Andy Robertson but he made some good clearances and tracked back when needed.

Virgil van Dijk - 7/10

A dominant performance by Virgil van Dijk tonight. Inter stopped putting long balls forward after they realised Virgil was just going to eat them up for his dinner.

The highlight of the game was when Martinez gave up trying to outsprint the Dutchman.

Joel Matip - 7/10

Similar to Virgil, Joel Matip didn't have much to do but when called upon he delivered. He won all of his aerial duels and we saw a couple of his galloping runs forward.

The defender was also inches away from opening the scoring in the first half with a bullet header that hit the crossbar.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 8/10

Trent Alexander-Arnold was probably Liverpool's Man of the Match. Defensively, the Scouser was unbelievable and despite Inter targeting his side, Trent stopped them at every opportunity he had.

Once again he looked like one of the only players who was going to create something for the Reds, something that Liverpool need to stop relying on every game.

Fabinho - 7/10

Despite a shaky start from Fabinho, he picked up his act in the second half, put in a dominant display in midfield and helped nullify Inter's late charge.

Thiago Alcantara - 7/10

Thiago Alcantara was very pleasing on the eye today and every time he had the ball the Milan midfield swarmed him. A very rash challenge on him should've seen Alexis Sanchez be sent off but karma caught up with the former Arsenal player in the second half.

Curtis Jones - 7/10

Curtis Jones put in a very good display in the first half. Everything was going through the Scouser and he was also winning all of his duels. A lackluster second half meant that he ended up getting substituted.

Sadio Mane - 6/10

Sadio Mane was Liverpool's best attacker on the day but that is not saying much. The Senegalese forward looked threatening at times but he failed to produce anything during the 90 minutes.

Diogo Jota 5/10

I love Diogo Jota but that was a dreadful game for the Liverpool forward. It just wasn't his day. Nothing went his way today and when it did the attack came to nothing. Invisible.

Mohamed Salah - 6/10

Another frustrating game for Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian missed an open goal which ended up hitting the post and then he should've scored once more but again it hit the upright.

Hopefully, this is just a cold patch for Salah because we need him to be at the top of his game for the upcoming games this season.

Substitutes

Jordan Henderson (64th minute for Thiago) - 7/10

When Jordan Henderson came on he restored a bit of normality to this Liverpool side and he seemed to calm everyone down.

His substitution was definitely needed at the time and it was a very smart decision by Klopp to bring his skipper on.

Naby Keita (64th minute for Curtis Jones) - 5.5/10

Unfortunately, Naby Keita didn't really do much for the time he was on the pitch. I mean he kept the ball which is something, I suppose.

Luis Diaz (83rd minute for Diogo Jota) - 6/10

It was very hard for Luis Diaz to make an impact during the seven minutes he was on the pitch but as soon as the winger came on he upped the energy for the Reds massively.

The Colombian also should've scored if it was not for an unbelievable block by Arturo Vidal.
